A FIVB Level 1 International Volleyball Coaches Course commenced at the FIVB Volleyball Development Centre in Chennai, India on 25 August 2011 with the participating of four (4) Sri Lankan Coaches. Saman Chandranath, Indika Fernando, Chandima Dissanayake and KK Nandana are the participants from Sri Lanka.
According to FIVB, there are 38 participants from India, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Philippines and Turkey are attending this event.
Mr M Vijayakumar, IAS, Member Secretary, Sports Development Authority of Tamilnadu opened the course alongside course director Mr Abedl Hamid El Wassimy of Egypt and course instructor Mr Athanasios Papagergiou of Germany.
The theory classes will be conducted in the Auditorium at the Development Centre while practical sessions will be held at the Indoor Stadium, Chennai-3.
Prior to the inauguration Secretary General of the Volleyball Federation of India Mr K Murugan welcomed the gathering.
The closing ceremony of the course will be held on September 3.

The 13th edition of the DSI Super Sports School Volleyball Championship conducted by the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation in collaboration with the D Samson Group of Companies, and the Ministry of Education of Sri Lanka came to a successful conclusion on 20 August 2011 at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium in Colombo.
This years championship saw 5068 school teams representing 24 districts of the Island , battle it out in four ( 4 ) categories ; namely, under 12, 14 16 and 18 . The tournament was conducted for both boys and girls with the finals being conducted on 19 and 20 August in Colombo. The matches were conducted in three stages; district, province and national level.
The entire proceedings of the last two days were telecast live on ITN channel creating great interest among the school children and volleyball loving general public. The final session was conducted amidst a distinguished gathering and a supportive crowd.

The opening matches of the tournament were held on 09 June 2011 in district level. The DSI group is the main sponsor of the event while the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation along with the Ministry of Education conducts the tournament.

Both men and women national volleyball pools are now in full swing in view of the forthcoming Asian Senior Volleyball Championships. The men’s championship will be held in Tehran, Iran from 19 to 29 September 2011, while the women’s championship will be from 15 September to 23 September 2100 in Chinese Taipei. Presently both pools are undergoing residential training under the watchful eyes of respective national coaches.
